Background Review & Planning
Our Secretary of the Interior-qualified archaeologists provide technical knowledge and academic expertise to adequately analyze cultural resources, handle multiple regulatory contexts, and produce cultural impact assessments for a wide range of projects.
Regulatory Compliance Guidance
We provide sensible, appropriate management solutions to meet the requirements and nuances of state and local government environmental regulations including all phases of Section 106 of NHPA and NEPA requirements.
Prehistoric and Historic Archaeology
NWB’s archaeologists and architectural historian are available to identify, evaluate, and mitigate prehistoric and historical archaeological resources. We survey, test, and evaluate archaeological sites, produce research designs and recommendations, and complete data recovery excavations at significant archaeological sites.
NWB’s staff members have long-term working relationships with tribal nations in the region and are knowledgeable about NAGPRA compliance. We conduct advanced consultation in relation to resources that are important to Native Americans, including multiple burial sites and traditional cultural properties.
Architectural History & NRHP
We assess the effects that proposed projects may have on resources eligible for or listed in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and California Register of Historical Resources. We develop and implement mitigation measures for NRHP properties that will be adversely affected by a proposed activity. Principal Investigator Dr. Hector successfully completed five National Register nominations resulting in listing in the National Register of Historic Places, and a sixth was submitted in 2014. Four of the six nominations include traditional cultural landscapes and were prepared in collaboration with the local Native American tribes.
